Monday, Nov. 24, 2025: GEOS-CF version 2 becomes default CF system
Monday, Dec. 1, 2025: GEOS-CF version 1 is deprioritized (replay available, forecast availability contingent on adequate computing resources)
Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026: GEOS-CF version 1 data no longer produced

Total column fields represent the sum total of a given constituent throughout the atmosphere. It is derived by summing over all model layers from the surface to the top of the atmosphere (this is known as the "column" at a given location). Use these fields to assess the total atmospheric content.
Tropospheric column fields represent the sum of a given constituent from the surface to the tropopause.
